31213- CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE USED J. ASTON HYTHE ENFIELD PATTERN 1853 PERCUSSION RIFLE MUSKET. 39” rifled .577 cal. barrel which is un-marked and without British proofs of any kind. Original front and long range rear sights. Lock plate signed “J. ASTON/HYTHE” forward of the hammer. Tang of butt plate stamped “69/O.U”. Otherwise un-marked and un-inspected. 100% original and in attic as found unrestored condition. Old dark metal patina. Wood with the original finish with old wrist repair and toe chip. Lock in working order and dark bore with excellent rifling. J. Aston was a well known maker and the Astons (R. & W.) are documented as having supplied arms to the Confederacy during the Civil War ( see p.15, The English Connection, by Pritchard & Huey et al.). The lack of proofs also lends to the bonded export probability during the war. From an old Virginia collection as well.
