Saber bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel. Top of frame stamped “COL. COLT HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Early example serial numbered in the 2xxx range and all matching and all original down to the last screw and in very superior condition with 90% plus original blue on the barrel and bands and 50-60% blue and dark patina evenly mixed on the frame. Swivels, screws and butt plate also with much original blue finish. Original cleaning rod. Walnut stock and full length forend with all the original finish. Brass forend cap. Has all the original nipples and is in excellent working order. Exceptional bore with very crisp rifling. Only 9000 manufactured and all saw service during the Civil War with low survival rate and are usually seen in worn condition. It should also be noted that Sam Colt raised his own Volunteer Regiment and armed them with these rifles early in the war and became their Regimental Colonel. The extra nice example. (SOLD)
